How to put stripes in your artificial grass
Having stipes in your lawn is something most people want, especially in artificial grass. However, the pre striped artificial grass looks tacky and cheap. Hence why we don’t stock any of it. This doesn't mean you can't stripe your artificial grass yourself.
Not every artificial grass stripes well, but for certain ones it can be done really nicely. Not only will we tell you which grass of ours and which type stripes best. We'll also show you the methods tips and tricks, on striping your own artificial grass with ease.
How to stripe artificial grass
To add stripes into your artificial grass, you'll need a power brush. Local companies may rent them, but its best to buy your own power brush as to keep on top of the stripes and maintenance. Additionally, if it's not a fresh installation, you'll want to run a maintenance to get your artificial grass looking like new again.
Now in to the striping of your artificial grass. It's simple really, instead of going up your garden then pulling the brush back and repeating. To put stripes in your artificial grass you want to have the pile pointing in different directions which gives a slightly different colour tone when you look at it. to do this, you'll want to go up one way and then back down. Have a slight overlap with the wheel into the previous stripe and repeat this for our entire garden. The alternating strips where the pile is sitting in a different directions will give a striped look, similar to a freshly mown lawn.
The artificial grass
As mentioned above striping artificial grass is all about having the pile pointing in different directions. Because of this some grasses will stripe better than others.
While most grasses can have some sort of stripe added into it. There a certain styles where it works best and is very noticeable and natural. First of all, our pet and play 25mm won't work for this, or at least won't be very noticeable, and we recommend you don't buy this grass for a striped lawn. This is because the grass is quote short so when you brush it the pile hasn’t got as much room to lean in different directions, as well as the fact that it’s a very strong pile so it won't over as much and will want to spring back to its usual position after being brushed.
Multidirectional grass like Natural 42 also don’t stripe as well due to its more natural messy nature, the stripes will be less noticeable in this style of grass, even if the pile is longer.
The best products for striping artificial grass are soft grasses that have quite directional pile, such as our Soft 35mm. Longer grass will generally stripe easier as you can brush the longer fibres to lean in alternating directions more easier. Grasses with softer and finer grass fibres are also easier to brush into stripes as the fibres aren't as stiff so wont spring back to their original position as easily.
